Together, they coordinate food distribution, advocacy, and hunger-relief programs that reach families in all 67 Alabama counties. Meet the people working every day to end hunger across our state.
Laura Lester
Founding President & CEO (through September 24, 2026)
Laura Lester is Feeding Alabama's founding President & CEO. Over 13 years, she grew the organization from one part-time staffer to three full-time staff and a $5 million budget, and helped make Alabama a national model for hunger-relief collaboration. Laura will retire in September 2026 after 20 years in food banking overall.
Kim Lawkis
President & CEO (effective September 1, 2026)
Kim Lawkis serves as Feeding Alabama's incoming President & CEO. She began her career on the front lines of food banking at Feeding the Gulf Coast before moving into statewide and disaster-response work, and brings a background with the Department of Agriculture and a long tenure in food banking to her new role. As COO, Kim was essential to Feeding Alabama's growth and success, and she now leads the organization into its next chapter.
