Alabama launches the first summer of SUN Bucks!

The Alabama SUN Bucks program provides grocery benefits to families with school-aged children in our community. This important program is expected to help over 500,000 kids in Alabama get access to healthy food this summer, and it’s just one of several programs that help families in our community. Alabama SUN Bucks works alongside Summer Meals to help make sure kids in Alabama are getting nutritious food all year round.

Here’s what you need to know:

Alabama SUN Bucks is for school-aged children in households that are at or under 185% of federal poverty guidelines.

Families receive $120 per eligible school-aged child for groceries.

Most eligible families will be automatically enrolled, but some will need to apply atalabama-sunbucks.com. You can apply anytime through August 15, 2026.

Alabama SUN Bucks will be mailed on a new Alabama SUN Bucks card with the child’s name on it. Please keep your new Alabama SUN Bucks card. You might use it for future benefits.

Alabama SUN Bucks benefits can be used to buy food like fruits, vegetables, meat, whole grains, and dairy at grocery stores, farmers’ markets, and other places that accept SNAP EBT benefits.

If they aren’t automatically enrolled in the program, families can check their eligibility and apply at alabama-sunbucks.com.

The Alabama SUN Bucks card has a Lock/Unlock and alert feature available on the ConnectEBT app and website. This feature will allow cardholders the ability to lock and unlock their EBT cards to prevent fraudsters from making in-store or online purchases. See flyer below.
